THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND APPLIED MECHANICS and the DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING at the UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA jointly invite applications for tenure-track positions in the areas of energy and/or nanoengineering. We seek candidates with interdisciplinary expertise whose research will involve connections and collaborations with both departments. Applicants with interest in device design and fabrication are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications at the assistant, associate, and full professor level will be considered. Applicants must have a doctoral degree, exceptional promise for or proven record of research achievement, and commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. The University of Pennsylvania seeks outstanding individuals for  a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering to start July 1, 2010. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or equivalent.  This search focuses on candidates working at the mathematical and computational foundations of Market and Social Systems Engineering - the formalization, analysis, optimization, and realization of interconnected systems that increasingly integrate engineering, computational, social and economic systems and methods. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a vision and interest in defining the research frontier and education of next-generation leaders and will contribute to the formation of a new interdisciplinary undergraduate program in this interdisciplinary field. The University of Pennsylvania is pioneering a new undergraduate  program on Market and Social Systems Engineering (MKSE) , as an interdisciplinary effort focused on topics at the burgeoning intersection of systems engineering, operations research, game theory and mechanism design,  algorithmic aspects of economics and sociology, and many related areas. The program is   designed to embrace the emerging scientific and engineering principles underlying phenomena as diverse as network science, social networking, web search and its monetization, electronic commerce, modern financial networks, and many others.

Post-doc Position on Piezoelectric MEMS/NEMS

Dr. Piazza seeks outstanding candidates for a Post-Doctoral position in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania to start around January, 2010.  The candidate needs to be familiar with micro and nano fabrication techniques, Finite Element Modeling (FEM) of MEMS/NEMS.  Knowledge of piezoelectric materials, resonators and RF or Microwave testing is a plus. The researcher will supervise a group of graduate students (http://pmans.ese.upenn.edu) and work on one or two projects related to the development of novel MEMS/NEMS high frequency piezoelectrically-transduced resonators and filters for reconfigurable spectral processors.
