Using Benchlink with Digital Multimeter

Using Benchlink on DMM gives the flexibility to time the measurements and make the data logging automatic. In the following example we will go through making a simple test project using DMM and Benchlink

The objective of this exercise to take a series of measurements using DMM and Benchlink. Setup the DMM to measure the resistance (press the W 2W key) and connect the resistance to the DMM.

Procedure:

  • Make sure that DMM is turned ON and setup.
  • From the Win 95 desktop START menu, goto Programs, and select HP Benchlink Suite and choose HP Benchlink Meter.
  • After the program launches, if it gives any error please contact the supervisor or Sid/George.
  • From File menu select New Project and name it as "Test"
  • A dialog box will appear; Select Resistance [2W].
  • The DMM is now ready to transfer information once a second to the PC.
  • From Test menu, select Run
  • The resistance measurement will now begin to be acquired. From Window menu, choose Readout or Strip Chart to see different ways in which PC will display the information.
  • As the resistance into the DMM changes, the changes will show on the PC. After a minute STOP the Test.
  • Use Statistics from Window menu to view Max, Min, Avg values.

Feel free to explore the software and other functions of DMM using the project.

Using this software one can record the data, archive it in a disk or paste it in reports.
