Second Majors for the College

Second Majors for Students in the College of Arts and Sciences

College Students can apply for Electrical Science (ES) as a second major within the College. Under this program, a College student will receive one diploma from the College of Arts and Sciences with a dual major (note that this option is only for students in the College, not Engineering students).

Application for Second Major for Non-Engineering Students

Electrical Science Requirements:

Second Majors with the College typically require 12-13 CUs. The Math and Natural Science requirement does not count in the 12-13 CUs.

  • Required Courses (6.5 CUs): ESE 2240, ESE 2150, ESE 2180, CIS 1100 or ENGR 1050, CIS 1200 or CIS 2400
  • Area Electives (3 CUs): Three courses from Advanced Courses Section of most recent EE CPG
  • Specialization Electives (1 CU): Any one other ESE course
  • Lab Elective (1 CU): One Lab from Design and Projects Courses Section of most recent EE CPG
  • Minimal Mathematics and Natural Science background required: PHYS 0140, PHYS 0141; MATH 1400, MATH 1410, MATH 2400 or ESE 2030

Systems Science:

The department is no longer accepting new majors or transfers as of the 2024-2025 catalog year.

The department will continue to support current Systems Science majors through graduation.
